Wk 13 Journal

This week I learned about disciple leadership and social entrepreneurship. We can be disciples of Jesus Christ and social entrepreneurs. I think the two go hand in hand with each other. I loved this quote from Joseph Smith, "A man filled with the love of God, is not content with blessing his family alone, but ranges through the whole world, anxious to bless the whole human race." I sincerely believe that as we try to center our lives on Jesus Christ and live as he would have us live, that we will be anxious to bless and serve as many people as we can. I enjoyed reading "Anxious to Bless the Whole Human Race", by Neil K. Newell. The church does so much good through its humanitarian efforts. We can all contribute to help others. Fasting is an easy way to do this as we give the money we would have spent on two meals to the church to help those in need. Disciple leadership and entrepreneurship go together.

I learned a lot by reading the Kiva article. The whole time I kept thinking, "Why are they doing this now?". I think they need to decide on a mission statement and stick to it. They sound wishy-washy like they can't make up their minds about what they want the business to be or do. It was almost confusing. I like the idea of crowdfunding and letting people give money for the loans to help someone. People like feeling connected to others and I think people will give more when they feel that connection. Mostly I learned to have a mission statement and work on that. Don't try to add more things on and change the business completely.

I have committed to doing more to help those who need it as a result of this course. There are many ways the gospel teaches us to do this. I can pay more to my fast offering. I can also contribute to the humanitarian fund or missionary fund or education fund to help others. I can find ways to serve in my community to help others. I will continue to find ways to serve and help those who are in need.
